In the medical field, the accuracy of measuring instruments can be the difference between life and death. A miscalibrated thermometer in a neonatal incubator, an inaccurate pressure gauge on an autoclave, or an uncalibrated blood bank refrigerator thermometer can all lead to catastrophic outcomes. ISO/IEC 17025:2017 calibration from an accredited laboratory provides the documented assurance that measurements can be trusted.

What is ISO/IEC 17025:2017?

ISO/IEC 17025:2017 is the internationally recognized standard for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. Published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), it specifies the general requirements that a laboratory must meet to demonstrate its technical competence to produce valid results. Accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 by NABL (India) or other ILAC-MRA signatory bodies is the gold standard for laboratory competence.

The Concept of Metrological Traceability

Traceability in metrology refers to an unbroken chain of calibrations linking a measurement result to a national or international measurement standard. When we calibrate a hospital autoclave's temperature recorder, the reference thermometer used in that calibration must itself be calibrated against a higher-accuracy reference, which in turn traces back to NPL India's national temperature standards, and ultimately to SI unit definitions. This unbroken chain — documented with calibration certificates at each step — is metrological traceability.

ILAC-MRA: International Recognition

The International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation Mutual Recognition Arrangement (ILAC-MRA) enables calibration certificates issued by accredited labs in one country to be accepted in all signatory countries. India's NABL is a full signatory to ILAC-MRA. This means calibration certificates issued by our NABL-accredited lab — bearing the NABL symbol — are internationally recognized and satisfy regulatory requirements in export markets as well as domestic NABH, NABL, and CDSCO compliance frameworks.

Scope of Our Calibration Services

Our NABL-accredited calibration laboratory at Jaipur provides calibration services across multiple technical disciplines. In the thermal domain, we calibrate temperature sensors, thermometers, data loggers, refrigerator and freezer temperature controllers, incubators, and autoclaves. In the electrical domain, we calibrate multimeters, clamp meters, insulation testers, earth testers, and power analyzers. For pressure, we calibrate gauges, manometers, and sphygmomanometers. For mechanical parameters, we calibrate balances, torque wrenches, and dimensional instruments.

Calibration Intervals for Medical Equipment

NABH and NABL guidelines recommend annual calibration for most medical instruments, with some high-critical items requiring semi-annual or quarterly calibration. Blood bank refrigerator temperature recorders, autoclave validation sensors, and incubator temperature controllers should be calibrated at a minimum annually. We offer annual maintenance contracts (AMC) with scheduled calibration visits to ensure your facility remains continuously compliant.
